Agromyza nigripes is a species of leaf-mining fly within the family Agromyzidae.[2] Observations of preserved specimens from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset reveal a small, dark-bodied fly typical of the genus Agromyza.[1] The specimens exhibit a robust thorax and abdomen, with visible wing venation and dark, sclerotized legs.[1]
Ecology and Morphology
The larvae of Agromyza nigripes are known to be leaf miners, specifically developing on the common reed (Phragmites australis).[2]
Diagnostic larval features include:
- Cephalopharyngeal Skeleton: The mandibles possess four teeth (one apical and three additional). The processes of the cephalopharyngeal skeleton are heavily sclerotized, with the dorsal process being wider than the ventral one.[2]
- Respiratory System: The anterior spiracles have 16–20 openings. The posterior spiracles are spaced at a distance 1.5–2 times their width, with the openings arranged at a 100° angle.[2]
