Visual Description
Agromyza flaviceps is a small fly characteristic of the family Agromyzidae. Based on observations of museum specimens, the species exhibits a generally dark, sclerotized body typical of many agromyzids. The head, thorax, and abdomen are compact, with the thorax showing a robust, slightly arched dorsal profile. The wings are membranous and clear, with distinct venation patterns typical of the genus Agromyza. The legs are slender, and the overall body coloration is predominantly black or dark brown, with some lighter, yellowish-brown markings on the head and legs, consistent with its specific epithet flaviceps (meaning "yellow-headed")[1].
Ecology and Distribution
Agromyza flaviceps is a European species of the family Agromyzidae [2]. It is considered relatively common in the Czech Republic in habitats where its host plant is present [2].
The larvae of A. flaviceps are leaf miners on hops (Humulus lupulus) [2]. Historical records of this species exist from the area around Lipník nad Bečvou, where mines were observed on Humulus spp. [2].
