Visual Description
Agromyza canadensis is a species of leaf-mining fly within the family Agromyzidae. Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, individuals exhibit the characteristic small, fly-like morphology typical of the family.[1] The specimens generally display a dark, often blackish or brownish coloration on the thorax and abdomen, with clear, membranous wings. The head is relatively small with prominent compound eyes. Due to the small size of these insects, finer morphological details such as specific setal patterns are difficult to resolve in these images.[1]
Biology and Interactions
Agromyza canadensis was described by Malloch in 1913.[2] As a member of the Agromyzidae, it is associated with plant-insect interactions. Records indicate that Agromyza canadensis interacts with various plants in the family Boraginaceae, including species in the genera Hackelia, Cynoglossum (e.g., Cynoglossum officinale), and Lithospermum (e.g., Lithospermum officinale).[3]
