Visual Description
Agromyza albitarsis is a small fly, with a wing length typically ranging from 2.2 to 2.6 mm.[2] Observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset show the insect with a generally dark, matte gray body coloration.[1] The frons, mesonotum, and all segments of the antennae are black, with the third antennal segment being rounded in shape.[2]
Biology and Ecology
Agromyza albitarsis Meigen, 1830 (synonym: Agromyza lygophora Hering, 1937) is a member of the subfamily Agromyzinae.[2] The species has a broad distribution, including Canada and countries across Western and Northern Europe.[2] In Turkey, it was first recorded in the İzmir province.[2]
Surveys in the Batman province of Turkey (2010–2012) found A. albitarsis heavily associated with Populus species across several districts, including Gercüş, Hasankeyf, Beşiri, Kozluk, and Sason.[2] While no parasitoids were identified in that specific study, earlier literature has documented several parasitoid species associated with A. albitarsis, including Opius basalis, Cirrospilus lyncus, C. vittatus, Diglyphus isaea, and Pnigalio soemius[2].
