Description
Agathomyia woodella is a species of fly within the family Platypezidae, commonly known as flat-footed flies. The species was described by Peter J. Chandler in 1985.[2]
Visual Description
Based on examination of preserved specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, Agathomyia woodella exhibits the characteristic morphology of the genus Agathomyia.[1] The specimens display the typical dipteran body plan, including a distinct head, thorax, and abdomen. As with other members of the family Platypezidae, they possess specialized structures on the tarsi, which are often flattened or broadened. Due to the nature of the preserved museum specimens, finer diagnostic characters such as specific wing venation patterns or subtle setal arrangements are difficult to resolve without high-magnification microscopy.[1]
