Visual Description
Agathomyia viduella is a species of flat-footed fly. Based on observations of museum specimens and field photographs, the adult fly exhibits the characteristic body form of the family Platypezidae. The body is generally compact, with a distinct, rounded head and a thorax that appears robust. The wings are typically clear or slightly smoky, with venation patterns characteristic of the genus. The legs, particularly the hind tarsi, are often flattened or broadened, a trait common among members of this family.[1]
Biology and Distribution
Agathomyia viduella (Zetterstedt, 1838) is a Palaearctic species of flat-footed fly that is frequently encountered in North and Central Europe.[2] In the Gemer region of Central Slovakia, the species has been recorded in the Muránska planina area, including the Hrdzavá dolina valley and the Poludnica and Šarkanica reserves.[2] While the specific biology of A. viduella remains unknown, adults are typically found along brooks in deciduous and mixed forests.[2]
The species was originally described as Callomyza viduella by Zetterstedt in 1838.[3]
