Visual Description
Agathomyia vanduzeei is a member of the family Platypezidae, commonly known as flat-footed flies. Based on observations of museum specimens from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, individuals exhibit the characteristic compact, robust body form typical of the family.[1] The specimens display distinct, relatively large, holoptic eyes (meeting at the midline) in males, which is a common trait in many dipteran species. The wings are well-developed and clear, with venation patterns consistent with the genus Agathomyia. The legs, particularly the tarsi, show the specialized, flattened appearance that gives the family its common name.[1]
General Information
Agathomyia vanduzeei was described by C.W. Johnson in 1916.[2] The species is recognized as an accepted name within the genus Agathomyia.[2]
