Visual Description
Agathomyia monticola is a species of flat-footed fly. Based on examination of preserved specimens from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, the species exhibits typical dipteran morphology, including a distinct head, thorax, and abdomen.[1] The specimens show the characteristic flattened tarsi of the family Platypezidae, which are visible in the preserved material.[1]
Taxonomy and Classification
Agathomyia monticola was described by C.W. Johnson in 1923.[2] The original description was published in "A review of the Platypezidae of eastern North America" in the Occasional Papers of the Boston Society of Natural History.[2]
