Visual Description
Agathomyia lundbecki is a small fly characteristic of the family Platypezidae, commonly known as flat-footed flies. Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, the species exhibits a compact, robust body form typical of the genus.[1] The specimens display distinct, relatively large, holoptic eyes (in males) that occupy a significant portion of the head. The wings are clear and held horizontally over the abdomen when at rest. The legs, particularly the tarsi, are often broadened or flattened, a diagnostic feature of the family.[1]
Taxonomy and Classification
Agathomyia lundbecki was described by the entomologist Peter J. Chandler in 1985.[2] It is an accepted species within the genus Agathomyia, which belongs to the family Platypezidae.[2]
