Visual Description
Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, Agathomyia dubia exhibits the characteristic body form of the family Platypezidae, commonly known as flat-footed flies.[1] The specimens display a compact, somewhat flattened body structure. The wings are relatively large in proportion to the body, with distinct venation patterns typical of the genus. Due to the limitations of the available imagery, finer morphological details such as specific setal arrangements or precise antennal structures are not clearly resolved.[1]
General Information
Agathomyia dubia is a species of fly in the family Platypezidae, first described by C.W. Johnson in 1916.[2] The species was formally published in his work, "Further studies on the Platypezidae," in the journal Psyche.[2]
While Agathomyia is a diverse genus within the Platypezidae, research into the fossil record of the family has highlighted the presence of other species, such as Agathomyia eocenica, which was identified in the middle Eocene Kishenehn Formation.[3]
