Agapophytus palmulus is a species of stiletto fly within the family Therevidae. Observations of museum specimens reveal a slender, elongated body typical of the genus. The specimens exhibit a distinct, patterned abdomen with alternating light and dark bands, and the wings are generally clear or lightly infuscated. The head is relatively large with prominent, holoptic eyes in males, a characteristic feature of many therevid flies.[1]
Agapophytus palmulus was formally described by Winterton and Irwin in 2001 as part of their phylogenetic revision of the genus Agapophytus.[2] As members of the family Therevidae, they are commonly known as stiletto flies. The larvae of therevids are typically predatory, living in soil or decaying organic matter, while the adults are generally found on foliage or flowers.[2]
