Visual Description
Agapophytus lyneborgi is a member of the family Therevidae, commonly known as stiletto flies. Observations of specimens from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset reveal a slender, elongated body typical of the genus.[1] The flies exhibit a distinct, patterned abdomen with alternating bands of dark and lighter coloration. The wings are generally clear and held in a characteristic position along the back when at rest. The head is relatively large with prominent, holoptic eyes in males, which are typical features for many species within this family.[1]
Distribution and Classification
Agapophytus lyneborgi was described by Winterton and Irwin in 2001.[2] It is recognized as an accepted species within the genus Agapophytus.[2]
