Visual Description
Agapophytus decorus is a stiletto fly characterized by a slender, elongated body form typical of the family Therevidae. Observations of specimens indicate a dark-colored thorax featuring distinct longitudinal pale or greyish stripes. The wings are generally clear or slightly smoky, often exhibiting a subtle iridescence. The eyes are large and prominent, occupying a significant portion of the head. The legs are slender and equipped with fine, hair-like setae.[1]
Taxonomy and Classification
Agapophytus decorus was described by Winterton and Irwin in 2001 as part of their phylogenetic revision of the genus Agapophytus (Diptera: Therevidae: Agapophytinae).[2]
