Visual Description
Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, Agapophytus australasiae exhibits the characteristic stiletto fly morphology typical of the family Therevidae.[1] The body is slender and elongated, with a distinct, tapering abdomen. The thorax and abdomen are covered in fine, dense pubescence, giving the insect a somewhat velvety appearance. The wings are clear and held flat over the abdomen when at rest. The eyes are large and holoptic in males, occupying a significant portion of the head.[1]
Distribution and Classification
Agapophytus australasiae was described by Guérin in 1831.[2] It is an accepted species within the genus Agapophytus.[2]
