Visual Description
Agapophytus atrilaticlavius is a stiletto fly characterized by a slender, elongated body typical of the family Therevidae. Observations from available imagery show a distinct, patterned abdomen with alternating dark and lighter bands. The thorax exhibits a robust structure, and the wings are generally clear or slightly tinted, held in a characteristic position that reveals the venation patterns typical of the genus. The head is relatively large with prominent, holoptic eyes in males, which are a common feature in many therevid species.[1]
Distribution and Classification
Agapophytus atrilaticlavius was described by Winterton and Irwin in 2001 as part of their phylogenetic revision of the genus Agapophytus.[2] It is an accepted species within the family Therevidae, a group of flies commonly known as stiletto flies.[2]
