Visual Description
The species Afroparaclius thompsoni is a member of the family Dolichopodidae, commonly known as long-legged flies. Based on examination of museum specimen images from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, individuals exhibit the characteristic slender, elongated body form typical of the family.[1] The specimens display long, thin legs and wings that are held in a position consistent with other members of the Dolichopodinae subfamily. Due to the nature of the available photographic records, finer morphological details such as specific setal patterns or precise wing venation are not clearly resolvable.[1]
Classification and History
Afroparaclius thompsoni was described by I.Y. Grichanov in 2004.[2] It was originally described under the name Paracleius thompsoni.[2] The species is recognized as an accepted taxon within the genus Afroparaclius.[2] Genetic data for this species is tracked by NCBI.[3]
