Afroleptomydas opacicinctus exhibits the characteristic elongated body form typical of the family Mydidae. Observations from available imagery indicate a robust, wasp-like appearance. The specimens display a distinct abdominal banding pattern, with alternating dark and lighter, possibly pollinose or pubescent, transverse bands. The wings are generally clear or slightly infuscated, with well-defined venation characteristic of the genus. The head features prominent, large eyes and antennae that are clubbed at the apex, a diagnostic feature for many mydids.[1]
Afroleptomydas opacicinctus was described by A.J. Hesse in 1969 as part of his comprehensive work on the Mydidae of southern Africa.[2]
