Visual Description
Afrolasioptera tumida is a gall midge species. Observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset indicate that the species exhibits a small, delicate body typical of the family Cecidomyiidae.[1] The specimens display slender, elongated legs and wings that are relatively large in proportion to the body size.[1]
Biology and Ecology
Afrolasioptera tumida is known to induce bud galls on the plant Dicerothamnus rhinocerotis (formerly Elytropappus rhinocerotis), commonly known as renosterbos.[2][3] The species was described by Dorchin in 2007.[3] It is sometimes referred to by the vernacular name "Renosterbos Bud Gall Midge".[3]
