Overview
Afrolasioptera is a genus of gall midges within the family Cecidomyiidae, described by Dorchin in 2007.[2]
Ecology
Members of this genus are known to interact with host plants. Specifically, Afrolasioptera tumida has been documented to have Dicerothamnus rhinocerotis as a host plant.[3]
Visual Description
Observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset indicate that specimens of Afrolasioptera (specifically A. tumida) are small, delicate flies typical of the Cecidomyiidae family.[1] They exhibit characteristic long, slender legs and antennae. The body coloration often includes muted tones, such as brownish or greyish hues, which may provide camouflage on their host plants.[1]
