Visual Description
Aenigmatias species exhibit marked sexual dimorphism.[2] Observations of specimens from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset reveal distinct morphological differences between the sexes.[1] Males are typically winged, possessing a more slender, traditional fly-like body form. In contrast, females are flightless and exhibit a more robust, often apterous or brachypterous appearance with a significantly enlarged, rounded abdomen.[2]
Biology and Ecology
Aenigmatias is a Holarctic genus of phorid flies.[2] The larvae of these flies are known to be parasitoids of ant pupae.[2]
