Based on observations of preserved specimens, Aedokritus platycnemis exhibits characteristic morphology typical of the family Chironomidae. The specimens show a slender, elongated body structure with delicate, multi-segmented antennae and well-developed wings. The legs are relatively long and thin, consistent with the general habitus of the genus Aedokritus.[1]
Aedokritus platycnemis was originally described by F.W. Edwards in 1931 as Chironomus platycnemis.[2] The species has been historically known from northeastern Argentina and has been further documented and redescribed based on the holotype and additional material collected in Brazil.[3]
