Ecology and Medical Importance
Aedes vigilax (Skuse) is a salt marsh mosquito of significant medical importance in Australia, acting as a vector for Ross River virus, which causes polyarthritis.[2]
Research conducted across ten salt marsh sites in subtropical southeastern Queensland, Australia, indicates that Ae. vigilax eggshell distribution is heterogeneous and significantly influenced by specific land cover (vegetation) types and location on the marsh.[2] Eggshell densities were significantly higher in vegetation assemblages containing a mix of the grass Sporobolus virginicus and the beaded glasswort Sarcocornia quinqueflora.[2]
