Ecology and Distribution
Aedes unidentatus is a mosquito species described by McIntosh in 1971 [2]. It has been identified as a member of the leesoni group, which, along with the dentatus group, is commonly found in the Highveld region of the Gauteng province in South Africa, particularly in peri-urban environments [3].
Molecular Characteristics
In molecular studies utilizing DNA barcoding of the cytochrome oxidase subunit I (COI) gene, Aedes unidentatus has been analyzed alongside other Aedes species. Phylogenetic analysis of these COI sequences places Aedes unidentatus within a cluster of the subgenus Neomelaniconion. Within this cluster, it has shown no genetic separation from Aedes mcintoshi and Aedes circumluteolus [3].
