Visual Description
Aedes poicilius is a mosquito species. Based on observations of preserved specimens, the adult exhibits characteristic morphological features of the genus Aedes, including a slender body structure and distinct wing venation typical of Culicidae.[1]
Ecology and Medical Importance
Aedes poicilius is recognized as a vector of Wuchereria bancrofti, the parasite responsible for Bancroftian filariasis in the Philippines.[2] The species is known to thrive in Musa (banana) plantations, which provide suitable breeding habitats for its populations.[2] Predictive modeling indicates that environmental variables, particularly isothermality, influence the distribution of this species and the prevalence of the disease it transmits.[2]
