Visual Description
Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, Aedes nipponicus exhibits characteristic mosquito morphology, including a slender body, long, thin legs, and a pair of wings.[1] The specimens display typical dipteran features such as a distinct head with prominent compound eyes and elongated mouthparts adapted for feeding.[1]
Ecology and Distribution
Aedes nipponicus was described by LaCasse and Yamaguti in 1948.[2] Ecological research conducted on Konpira hill in Nagasaki, Japan, between 1988 and 1989 identified this species as an inhabitant of tree holes.[3] While present in these habitats, it was noted as not being among the most abundant mosquito species in the surveyed tree-hole communities.[3] Genetic data for the species is available through NCBI.[4]
