Aedes katherinensis exhibits the characteristic morphology of a mosquito, with a slender body, long, thin legs, and a pair of wings. Observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset indicate that the species possesses distinct patterns on its thorax and abdomen, typical of the genus Aedes.[1]
Aedes katherinensis was described by Woodhill in 1949.[2] Research into the nuclear DNA content of Aedes mosquitoes has shown that Aedes katherinensis possesses the highest haploid nuclear DNA (1C) content among the seven species of the Aedes scutellaris subgroup examined, with a value of 1.277 ± 0.02 pg.[3] This genome size is approximately double that of Aedes pseudoscutellaris and Aedes cooki, which have the smallest genomes within the studied group.[3]
