Visual Description
Aedes japonicus is a mosquito characterized by distinct morphological features. Observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset indicate that the adult form typically exhibits a dark coloration, often with contrasting light-colored markings on the thorax and legs.[1] The legs often display pale banding, a common trait in many Aedes species.[1]
Ecology and Distribution
Aedes japonicus is an invasive mosquito species. In 2011, adult females were trapped in the Upper Rhine Valley in south-west Germany, marking the first time the adult stage was documented in the country, following previous records of immature stages.[2] The presence of this species in the region suggests it is susceptible to the introduction and establishment of exotic mosquitoes.[2]
