This page represents the following TreeOfLife-200M taxonomic path.[1]
Based on examination of preserved specimens from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, Aedes inexpectatus exhibits typical culicid morphology.[1] The specimens display the characteristic slender body form of the genus Aedes, with long, thin legs and elongated antennae. The wings are narrow and membranous, consistent with the order Diptera. Due to the nature of the preserved museum specimens, finer diagnostic features such as specific scale patterns or setal arrangements are not clearly resolved in the available imagery.
Aedes inexpectatus is a species of mosquito within the family Culicidae. It was formally described by J. Bonne-Wepster in 1948, based on specimens collected during the third Archbold Expedition (1938–1939) to New Guinea.[2]
