Aedes hirsutus has been identified as a mosquito species capable of harboring the Zika virus (ZIKV). In a 2011 study conducted in the Kédougou area of southeastern Senegal, the virus was detected in two pools of Ae. hirsutus out of 1,700 total mosquito pools tested.[2]
