Ecology and Distribution
Aedes dentatus is a mosquito species that has been documented in South Africa. In studies conducted in the north-eastern parts of South Africa between 2014 and 2018, it was identified as part of the Aedes dentatus group, which also includes Aedes cumminsii and Aedes pachyurus due to their morphological similarities.[2] Members of this group are commonly found in the Highveld region, particularly in peri-urban areas of Gauteng province.[2]
Visual Description
Specific morphological traits for Aedes dentatus are difficult to resolve from available digital imagery. While the species is recognized as a distinct taxon, it is noted for being morphologically similar or indistinct from other members of the Aedes dentatus group, such as Aedes cumminsii and Aedes pachyurus.[2]
