This page represents the following TreeOfLife-200M taxonomic path.[1]
Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, Aedes crinifer exhibits the typical morphology of a mosquito, characterized by a slender body, long, delicate legs, and a pair of functional wings.[1] The head features prominent compound eyes and elongated, thread-like antennae.[1]
Aedes crinifer was originally described by Theobald in 1903 as Culex crinifer.[2] It is sometimes referred to by the synonym Ochlerotatus crinifer.[3]
Research into the biological control of mosquitoes has shown that larvae of Aedes crinifer are susceptible to infection by the aquatic fungus Leptolegnia chapmanii (Saprolegniales), as demonstrated in laboratory evaluations using an Argentinean isolate of the pathogen.[3]
