Visual Description
Aedes caspius is a mosquito characterized by distinct morphological features. Observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset indicate that the adult mosquito typically exhibits a patterned appearance on its thorax and abdomen, often featuring light-colored, longitudinal or transverse bands that contrast with a darker background.[1] The legs often display pale, ring-like markings at the joints, a common trait in many Aedes species.[1]
Vector Competence
Research into the vector competence of Aedes caspius has shown that it does not possess the ability to transmit the Zika virus. In comparative studies conducted in Spain, while Aedes albopictus was identified as a competent vector for the virus, Aedes caspius was found to be unable to transmit it.[2]
