Classification and Research
Aedes bancroftianus was described by F.W. Edwards in 1921.[2] The genus Aedes belongs to the tribe Aedini, a group that has undergone significant taxonomic revision. Previous studies proposed elevating many subgenera within Aedini to generic rank; however, subsequent reanalysis suggested these changes were weakly supported and lacked the necessary stability for practical use.[3] Consequently, a more stable classification system has been adopted, maintaining these groups as subgenera to ensure taxonomic utility.[3]
