Visual Description
Adoxomyia subulata is a species of soldier fly. Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, individuals exhibit a robust, somewhat flattened body typical of the family Stratiomyidae.[1] Key visible traits include a dark, often metallic-hued thorax and abdomen, and wings that are held flat over the abdomen when at rest. The antennae are relatively short and characteristic of the genus.[1]
History and Classification
Adoxomyia subulata was originally described by the entomologist Hermann Loew in 1866 as Clitellaria subulata.[2] It is currently an accepted species within the genus Adoxomyia.[2]
