Visual Description
Adoxomyia lata is a species of soldier fly within the family Stratiomyidae. Based on examination of preserved museum specimens, the species exhibits a robust, somewhat flattened body form typical of many stratiomyids. Key visible traits include a distinct, dark-colored thorax and abdomen, often with a metallic or sub-metallic sheen. The wings are generally clear or slightly infuscated, with characteristic venation patterns consistent with the genus Adoxomyia. The head is relatively broad, with large, prominent eyes that occupy a significant portion of the head capsule.[1]
Taxonomy and Classification
Adoxomyia lata was originally described by the entomologist Hermann Loew in 1872 under the name Clitellaria lata.[2] It is currently recognized as an accepted species within the genus Adoxomyia.[2]
