Visual Description
Adoxomyia formosana exhibits the characteristic body form of the family Stratiomyidae. Observations of specimens from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset reveal a robust, somewhat flattened body structure typical of soldier flies.[1] The thorax and abdomen display a dark, often metallic or dull coloration, with fine pubescence visible on the dorsal surfaces. The wings are generally clear or slightly infuscated, held flat over the abdomen when at rest.[1]
History and Classification
Adoxomyia formosana was originally described by Kertész in 1923, under the basionym Euclitellaria formosana.[2] It is currently recognized as an accepted species within the genus Adoxomyia.[2]
