Visual Description
Adoxomyia argenteofasciata is a species of soldier fly within the family Stratiomyidae. Observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset indicate that individuals of this species exhibit a robust, somewhat flattened body form typical of many stratiomyids. The body is characterized by distinct coloration patterns, often featuring metallic or silvery markings on the abdomen, which may contribute to its specific epithet, argenteofasciata (meaning "silvery-banded"). The thorax and abdomen display a dense covering of fine setae, and the wings are typically clear or slightly infuscated, held flat over the abdomen when at rest.[1]
Taxonomic History
The species was originally described by Mario Bezzi in 1906 under the name Clitellaria argenteofasciata.[2] Recent taxonomic revisions have clarified its nomenclature; specifically, Adoxomyia grisea (Séguy, 1931) has been established as a junior synonym of Adoxomyia argenteofasciata.[3]
