Visual Description
Admontia degeerioides is a species of fly within the family Tachinidae. Based on observations of specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, individuals exhibit the characteristic tachinid body form, which is typically robust and bristly.[1] The flies display a dark coloration, often with greyish or pollinose dusting on the thorax and abdomen, a common trait in many tachinids. The wings are generally clear or lightly tinged. Due to the limitations of the available imagery, finer morphological details such as specific chaetotaxy (bristle patterns) or exact antennal structure cannot be definitively resolved.[1]
Biology and Classification
Admontia degeerioides was originally described by Daniel William Coquillett in 1895 as Hypostena degeerioides.[2] It is currently an accepted species name within the genus Admontia.[2]
Ecological interaction data indicates that Admontia degeerioides has been recorded interacting with Hamamelis virginiana (witch-hazel).[3]
