Visual Description
Admontia species are flies within the family Tachinidae. Based on observations of specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, these flies typically exhibit a robust, bristly appearance characteristic of many tachinids. Key morphological features often include a prominent, haired parafacial region and a distinctively shaped first flagellomere relative to the pedicel.[1]
Biology and Taxonomy
The genus Admontia was described by Brauer & Bergenstamm in 1889.[2] It belongs to the tribe Blondeliini within the family Tachinidae.[3]
Taxonomic reviews of Oriental species have clarified the status of several members of the genus. For instance, Admontia gracilipes (Mesnil) and Admontia malayana (Townsend) have been established as new combinations.[3] Diagnostic morphological characters for these species include the extent of hair on the parafacial, the number of preapical dorsal setae on the hind tibia, and the proportions of the first flagellomere and gena.[3]
Members of this genus are known to interact with other insects; for example, Admontia maculisquama has been recorded interacting with Tipula submarmorata.[4]
