Visual Description
Members of the genus Adelphomyia are small crane flies. Based on observations of specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, they exhibit the characteristic slender body form typical of many Limoniidae.[1] Key visible traits include long, delicate legs and wings that are often held folded over the abdomen when at rest. The wings frequently display subtle venation patterns and may have a slightly translucent or patterned appearance.[1]
Research and Distribution
The genus Adelphomyia Bergroth, 1891, belongs to the subfamily Limnophilinae within the family Limoniidae.[2] Recent studies have expanded the understanding of their distribution, such as on the Korean Peninsula, where four species are recognized.[2] Research in this region has included the description of new species, such as Adelphomyia jejuana, and the development of identification keys for all Palaearctic species.[2]
