Visual Description
Members of the genus Adejeania are robust, bristly flies. They are characterized by a dense covering of prominent, dark, spine-like setae, particularly on the abdomen, which often exhibits a reddish-orange or yellowish coloration. The head is large, with prominent compound eyes and a well-developed, often elongated, proboscis.[1]
Ecology and Behavior
Adejeania is a genus of bristle-flies within the family Tachinidae. The species Adejeania vexatrix is widely distributed throughout the Rocky Mountains of North America.[2] These flies are frequently observed visiting montane composite flowers to feed on nectar and pollen.[2] Like most tachinids, the specific larval hosts for A. vexatrix remain largely unknown.[2]
