Visual Description
Adapsilia illingworthana is a species of fly within the family Pyrgotidae. Observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset indicate that these flies possess a distinct, elongated body form characteristic of the family.[1] The wings are typically large and often exhibit complex, mottled or patterned venation, which is a common trait among pyrgotids. The body coloration is generally brownish or yellowish, providing a degree of camouflage. The head is relatively large with prominent compound eyes.[1]
History and Classification
Adapsilia illingworthana was described by the entomologist Mario Bezzi in 1929. The original description was published in the Proceedings of the Linnean Society of New South Wales as part of his work on Australian Pyrgotidae.[2]
