Visual Description
Acupalpa yanchep is a stiletto fly characterized by a distinct, slender body form. Observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset reveal a dark, predominantly black abdomen featuring prominent, transverse white bands on the posterior margins of the segments. The terminal segment of the abdomen exhibits a contrasting reddish-orange coloration. The thorax is dark and appears textured with fine setae. The eyes are large and exhibit a multi-colored, iridescent pattern. The wings are clear with dark venation and subtle dark markings.[1]
Distribution and Classification
Acupalpa yanchep was described by Shaun L. Winterton in 2011 as part of a revision of the stiletto fly genera Acupalpa Kröber and Pipinnipons Winterton.[2] This species is recognized within the subfamily Agapophytinae.[3]
