Visual Description
Acupalpa dolichorhyncha is a species of stiletto fly. Observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset indicate that individuals exhibit the characteristic slender, elongated body form typical of the family Therevidae.[1] The flies possess prominent, compound eyes and a distinctively elongated proboscis, which is a diagnostic feature reflected in the specific epithet dolichorhyncha.[2]
Biology and Distribution
Acupalpa dolichorhyncha was described by Shaun L. Winterton in 2011.[3] The species is part of the subfamily Agapophytinae within the family Therevidae.[3] Its description was published as part of a revision of the genera Acupalpa and Pipinnipons, which utilized cybertaxonomic methods to clarify the classification of Australasian stiletto flies.[3]
