Visual Description
Actorthia lacteipennis exhibits the characteristic slender, elongated body form typical of many stiletto flies (family Therevidae). Observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset images reveal a body covered in fine, dense pubescence, which contributes to a somewhat matte or velvety appearance. The wings are notably clear or translucent, consistent with the specific epithet lacteipennis (meaning "milk-winged" or "white-winged"). The head is relatively large with prominent, holoptic or dichoptic eyes depending on the sex, and the antennae are forward-projecting.[1]
Classification and History
Actorthia lacteipennis was originally described by the entomologist Theodor Becker in 1913 under the name Thereva lacteipennis.[2] It is currently classified as an accepted species within the genus Actorthia.[2]
