Visual Description
Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, members of the genus Actorthia exhibit typical dipteran morphology.[1] The body is generally slender, characteristic of many stiletto flies (Therevidae).[1] Visible traits include a distinct head structure with prominent eyes and a thorax covered in fine setae.[1]
Overview
Actorthia is a genus of stiletto flies within the family Therevidae, subfamily Phycinae.[2] The genus was established by Kröber in 1912.[3][4]
Recent taxonomic revisions have clarified the status of several species within the genus. For instance, Actorthia khedivialis (Becker, 1912) is now considered a synonym of A. frontata (Kröber, 1912), and A. efflatouni Kröber, 1925 is a synonym of A. micans (Kröber, 1923).[2] Additionally, Actorthia olivierii (Macquart, 1840) has been transferred to the genus Phycus.[2]
