Visual Description
Based on observations of specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, members of the genus Actocetor are small flies typical of the family Ephydridae.[1] They exhibit a distinct body form with a patterned appearance, often featuring dark markings on the wings and body. The head is relatively broad, and the eyes are prominent. The legs are well-developed, allowing for movement on various substrates.
Classification and History
The genus Actocetor was established by Becker in 1903.[2] Recent taxonomic revisions have clarified the placement of certain species; for instance, Notiphila indica Wiedemann, 1824, is now recognized as belonging to the genus Actocetor.[3]
