Visual Description
Actinoptera mamulae is a small fly characterized by a distinct wing pattern typical of many tephritids. Observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset indicate that the wings feature a complex, reticulated or mottled pattern of dark brown or black markings against a lighter, often yellowish or hyaline background.[1] The body is generally covered in fine setae, and the thorax and abdomen often exhibit a brownish or greyish coloration, which may help with camouflage in their natural environment.[1]
History and Classification
Actinoptera mamulae was originally described as Trypeta mamulae by Georg Ritter von Frauenfeld in 1855.[2][3] It has also been referred to in literature under the genus Tephritis.[2] The species is currently accepted as Actinoptera mamulae.[3]
