Visual Description
Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, Actinomyia longicornis exhibits the general body form characteristic of many soldier flies (Stratiomyidae).[1] The specimens display a slender, elongated abdomen and relatively long antennae, which are consistent with the specific epithet longicornis. The wings appear clear or slightly tinted, and the thorax shows distinct coloration patterns typical of the genus.[1]
History and Classification
Actinomyia longicornis was originally described by the entomologist Ignaz Rudolph Schiner in 1868 under the name Exaireta longicornis.[2] It is currently recognized as an accepted species within the genus Actinomyia.[2]
