Actinodictyidae are represented in the available museum/specimen-image records as fossil clathrodictyidan sponges assigned to fossil genera such as Camptodictyon, Yabeodictyon, and Neobeatricea (as provided by the GBIF-linked image dataset).
Diagnostic & Taxonomic Notes
Actinodictyidae (within Clathrodictyida) has been treated with emended circumscription in the literature, and includes synonymy where Ecclimadictyidae and Plexodictyidae have been treated as junior synonyms under Actinodictyidae.[2]
Diagnostic skeletal architecture emphasized for Actinodictyidae includes:
- very weak differentiation of skeletal elements
- crumpled (zigzag) laminae forming a cassiculate network
- indistinct or oblique pillars
- labyrinthine, subangular galleries in longitudinal section
- megapillars and paralaminae may be present.[2]
Stratigraphic Range
Reported from the Upper Ordovician (Katian) through the Lower Devonian (Emsian).[2]
